Augustin & Manuel Prudencio In-Store Oaxacan Wood Carving Demonstration & Sale Don't Miss This Special Event! Saturday, November 16 10 am to 4 pm Agustin Cruz Prudencio's skilled wood carvings have won him awards in both his home state of Oaxaca and nationally. His work carries on a centuries-old tradition of giving a baby a small carving of his spirit protector. Originally whittled for children, these carvings evolved into an imaginative folk art. Each piece is handcarved from copal pine and intricately painted, often by husband and wife teams. Agustin learned the craft at a young age from his father, also a renowned carver. He is one of the most inventive artists working in this fork art form and collaborates with his wife, Carmen Sosa Ojeda, a skilled painter, to create the intricately painted wood carvings he's brought with him to Tucson.
His brother, Manuel Prudencio - also a well-known wood carver - joins him for this special presentation!
